Sea Turtle Conservation in Cabo Verde

Cabo Verde holds an internationally critical position in the global conservation of sea turtles, which are a cornerstone of the nation’s marine biodiversity and “Blue Economy.”

Protecting Cabo Verde’s Environment: Supporting Biodiversity

Environmental stewardship is at the heart of our operations. We are deeply committed to ensuring the preservation of Cabo Verde’s unique biodiversity.

Recognizing the vital ecological role of the archipelago’s marine life, we are proud to be in cooperation with the Turtle Foundation and other conservation initiatives.

Global Significance: The archipelago is home to the world’s third-largest nesting population of Loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta). The primary nesting sites are found on the islands of Sal, Boa Vista, and Maio.

Species Focus: While Loggerhead turtles are the most abundant and the main focus of conservation efforts, other species, such as the Green turtle, are also present in the surrounding waters.

Conservation Efforts: Due to historical threats like poaching, as well as modern challenges from coastal development and climate change, intensive conservation programs are vital.

Our support directly addresses the operational needs of conservation groups by providing:

Reliable Power for Conservation Efforts: We supply solar power systems for the Turtle Foundation’s essential infrastructure, including:

  • Beach Camps: Ensuring light and communication capabilities during critical nighttime nesting patrols.
  • Office and Storage Facilities: Providing clean electricity for administrative tasks, data monitoring, and powering equipment at the NGO’s main office and storage locations.
